A lot of people ask me how the hell I juggle all the things that I do. From full-time bagel business to full-time school and workouts to everyday life, I admit that I do have a lot on my plate. I, however, also have to admit that I made the choice to put everything on it. I'm passionate about the things that I do. I genuinely enjoy the things that I do. I've found a happy balance between all the things that I do. I'm lucky to have done so at an early stage in my life, and I wouldn't change one thing for the world.
That said, I whipped up a list of six things that help me remain focused, balanced,
and determined every single day. Each brings me one step closer to becoming the woman I want to be.
1. Train your Brain ... Like a Muscle!
Oftentimes, we are overwhelmed with a million and one tasks. We lose the ability to focus. We lose the ability to get things done! Scatterbrain. Yep, it's a real disease. Avoid this and train your brain to shut down and recharge from time-to-time. Find an outlet that works for you, then stick to it! Yoga and philosophical reading has been my go-to lately (#grandmastatus, I know). I create my own little "zen den" for my mind to escape to and cleanse itself of clutter.
Find your outlet!
2. Figure Out your "Prime Time"
As many of you know, the morning is my "prime time." It is my most productive window. I don't know if it's because I get too damn excited for breakfast and coffee or because I am energized after a good night's rest, but 6 AM to 12 PM is my window. I get mucho done. Find YOUR time window that works best for you, and use this period to get important things done! Morning person. Night owl. We all share the same 24 hours. We just use them differently than others!
3. Surround Yourself with Supportive People
Days can get long. Days can be challenging. But when you surround yourself with people who support you and encourage you to be the best version of yourself, days get easier and much less intimidating. My Sweet Note ladies and my best friend are the three women who I turn to the most. They give me a whole new sense of confidence.
They remind me that I don't need to justify who I am.
Although this one is tough for me because I am endlessly tethered to the internet, I do make an effort to "unplug" every night before bed and for an extended period over the weekend. I recently picked up these two journals at Marshall's. I have been doing some writing every night and hashing out some thoughts. To anyone who finds it tough to unplug, I recommend you write. It's very cathartic.
5. Get Moving
Do whatever you can to get your body moving. Whether it's a walk, a run, a swim, or a yoga class, do something to activate your muscles and get your blood pumping! I always struggled with this one and thought that I needed a full gym workout in order remain "fit," but I learned that a short workout is just as efficient for my body- physically, mentally, and spiritually. Yesterday, for example, the weather was beautiful (YAY spring), so I went for a light run in my neighborhood and did some monkeying around at the playground. Aimless workouts are fantastic. It's nice when they just happen.
6. Do Things that Make YOU Feel Good
As I previously noted, we all have the same 24 hours. Spend them doing the things that YOU enjoy.
Your days will be filled with more happiness, more gratitude, more positive action, more positive thought.
And that I can guarantee. ☺︎
Cheers to the weekend!
