Hoooray it's Friday!
Today I'm featuring a guest post written by Caitlin Hudson! She was so kind as to reach out to me and ask if she could do a fun post for my page. How sweet is that? Cait is in the midst of creating her own blog (read more about her below), so she would like to kindly introduce herself and build a relationship with all of you!
Without further adieu, Caitlin Hudson, ladies and gents!
Hi all, I'm Caitlin Hudson, a full-time mom, nature lover, writer, and health nut! I am in the process of starting my own blog, so in the meantime, I have been doing some guest posting. Today it is my pleasure to share some of my summer fitness tips on Brittany's lovely blog! Feel free to get in touch with me on Twitter (@healthyhudson) or through email with any questions!
While everyone looks forward to the warm summer weather, they may not look forward to peeling off the extra layers of clothing from winter. It is easy to become "out of shape" in the winter when you are mostly stuck inside and covered up with big sweaters, after all. People often tend to eat heavier “comfort foods” and slack on the fresh fruits and vegetables. While you may think it is tough to get started on a healthy path, nothing could be further from the truth! Summer is a great time to kick it into gear!
1. Start by deciding on your goals. Do you want to focus on weight? Do you want to focus on strength training and increase your stamina? Do you want to focus on toning muscles? Be as specific as you can. By simply saying you want to “lose weight,” it will be hard to know the best way to reach that goal.
2. Start small. Take advantage of the warm weather and get outside! Starting the day off with a slow, easy jog or taking a long walk after dinner each night are both great ways to get in shape. You can even carry small 3-5 lb weights (try these dumbbells) with you to boost the intensity of the workout! Each week you can add on distance or time. Don’t be discouraged if you are not seeing results right away. Getting into shape is not something that happens overnight, but I promise that you will see a change over time if you stick with it. Consistency is key here!
3. If cardio, such as running or walking, bores you, find something you enjoy! Yoga is a great way to tone your body and work on flexibility. It is also something you can really do anywhere! Summer vacation? No problem! All you need is a yoga mat (I use this one) and you are set. If you are near a beach, check to see if there are any local yoga studios that host beach yoga. Talk about relaxing!
4. No matter how you decide to get in shape this summer, the key is to stick with it and to not give up. There will be days that it will be tough to get some exercise in or days when you just won’t “feel like it.” Recognize up front that some days will be more of a challenge than others. Just stay focused on your long-term goals!
Thank you SO much, Cait, for reaching out to me and writing a fabulous Friday post! I wish her well as she joins the Healthy Living Blog family!
Have a lovely Friday, everyone!
