Ever have a meal that truly left you without words? I had my first dining experience with Talula's Garden Philadelphia this past month. It was nothing short of phenomenal. If you're ever in the Philly area, this place is a must-stop.
Talula's is one of the many Starr Restaurants scattered in Center City. I had my first Starr experience three weeks ago at The Continental with Rudi @ Running Roo, and it was delicious. I had high expectations going into Talula's. Of course, as you can see from the presentation and atmosphere alone, my expectations were exceeded.
The staff was extremely accommodating and was quick to note if I had any allergies. I told them that I typically steer clear of dairy and gluten. My Mom (AKA my hot date for the night), however, does not have any intolerancea, so they were sure to bring out dishes best suited to each of our palates and diets. First up: appetizers.
The first was a Red Snapper Crudo. The savory from the fish and ginger vinaigrette paired really
well with the sweet from the Jonagold apple.
The second was a Kennett Square Mushroom with Arugula and Picked Onions. Needless to say,
my mom and I nearly fought each other for the last bite.
As an entree, my mom ordered the Sliced Black Pepper Beef Strip Loin with local cauliflower puree,
braised kale, roasted romanesco, and anchovy.
I went with the Seared Day Boat Scallop with roasted quince, toasted hazelnuts,
citrus-herb vinaigrette, and fresh baby kale.
Also, the sides menu was stellar, so we had to order the Brussels Sprouts and Bacon ‘Stuffing' with walnuts
and an apple cider glaze. Whenever there are brussels on the menu, one should not turn them down.
We also split a Cucumber & Dill dish with red onion, snap peas, radish, and pickled peppers.
It usually comes with Feta, but that was omitted.
At last, I was hella full, but I couldn't turn away dessert. We ordered the Vegan Chocolate Mousse made with coconut milk, coconut caramel, and pistachio. I ate my half, then rolled myself out of there. ☺︎
Again, if you're ever in the Philadelphia area: 1. give me a shout, obviously 2. visit Talula's Garden. It's nothing short of phenomenal. It's worth every indulgence!
