As April rolls around and the spring moves in, I wanted to share a few
thoughts. I know many of us are doing spring cleaning (physically, mentally, and spiritually), so I
thought it would be the perfect time to introduce a new concept that I have embraced.
Shout out to Michelle for today's post! She and I constantly share relevant articles with
each other, and this is one of them.
Anyway, I would typically use the beginning of the new month to strategize and set some
goals. Since I read this article, however, I am no longer setting goals for myself.
Instead, I am creating systems for myself.
Let Me Explain:
This article's author illustrated his point and made a few analogies that really
put the idea of a system into perspective:
Makes sense, right? Systems essentially create ways to sustain goals and keep them perpetually active.
And the more that I begin to think about it, the more I begin to realize that systems are the answer! Systems eliminate the deadlines that goals inadvertently create. Systems increase happiness because they let
go of the urgency to fulfill goals immediately, and in turn, don't make you feel like a failure if you haven't completed them within a certain time period. Systems suggest things that you do have control
over instead of things that you don't have control over. We're not fortune tellers! We can't
predict when we will make progress. Systems allow us to live comfortably with the idea that we simply will.
And with that Said, Here are a Few of April's Focuses
My system is simply doing what I have been doing and living with a mindset that I will achieve them. Mistakes happen. Things don't go as planned. Regardless, I will continue to work towards my (dare I say it?) goals. A little positivity can truly make the world go 'round.
Sending mucho credit to James Clear for this stellar article and for introducing me to systems. Thanks for helping me sustain my vision and revamp the way I'm pursuing my passions.
What are some things that you want to achieve?
