I've been searching around for some great DIY gifts to give to my friends and family this season.
Alas, while doing my usual pinning this week, I stumbled across a
really great idea: mason jar recipes! By simply taking a quart-size jar and filling it with all kinds of
goodies, you can create the most adorable gift. They're cute, convenient, and cost-effective.
Also, they're a perfect craft all-year-round and not just during the holidays. Triple threat? I think so!
So I whipped up a recipe that virtually anyone can use during any time of the year. If you too are using this recipe specifically for the holiday, then you can certainly decorate the mason jar accordingly. Anyway, the mason jars will contain all of the necessary dry ingredients to make an M&M cookie bar bake, which are only a mere 5 ingredients. Below you will find a step-by-step tutorial on how to fill the jars and create a wonderful gift!

Set a Funnel
The mason jar is not wide enough to smoothly pour the flours and such in without making a mess, so it's important to use a funnel. I didn't have a funnel on-hand, so I mmade one for myself using a plain piece of printer paper. Click here to see a more in-depth approach to my procedure.
Add 3/4 cup flour to create the first layer
Add 3/4 cup oats
Add 1/2 cup brown sugar
Add the chocolates. Pour a layer of both 1/2 cup M&Ms and 1/2 cup chocolate chips.
You may choose plain and peanut M&Ms work perfectly for this recipe!
Seal the jars and decorate them as you wish. As mentioned previously, I wanted
to follow a more holiday-friendly style, so I added some red fabric and green ribbon
to my jars! I also plan to add some cute gift tags.
I repeated this process a dozen times. Now I have twelve gifts to give to any person this holiday!
I have provided a full recipe below for those who want to omit the whole mason
jar process and simply make a batch of goodies for everyone to enjoy.
M&M Cookie Bars
By: Brittany @ Freckled Nettles
Prep Time: 5-10 Minutes
Bake Time: 25 Minutes
Directions: Pre-heat oven to 350. In a small-sized bowl, empty chocolate chip component of mason jar. Set aside. In a medium-sized bowl, empty the remainder of its contents. Mix in 1/2 cup melted butter, then stir. Remove a handful of oat mixture and set aside. Press remaining mixture into a greased pan. In a small pot, empty bowl of chocolate chips, then melt them together with the condensed milk and butter. Stir until everything is mixed well. Pour chocolate over oat mixture, then sprinkle it with remaining oats that were put aside. Top with any extra M&Ms that you may have left over, then bake. When finished, allow to cool for at least 20 minutes before slicing and serving. Enjoy!
