It's that time again. You guys know my drill! Well, I hope you do anyway. :)
This week's questions:
1. How did you come up with your blog name?
Honestly, it kind of just hit me! I didn't sit and think for hours and hours at a time trying to figure out a name. Since I've always been characterized by my freckled and my last name, Nettles, I figured Freckled Nettles would be a great fit! And a sort-of rhyming one at that.
2. What is your favorite thing about blogging?
It keeps me positive and motivated. I know I've said it before, but engaging with other phenomenal, encouraging people helps me point out all of the beautiful things that are going on in my life. It also keeps my goals intact.
3. What is one thing you have discovered because of blogging and now cant live without?
Hmm, I'd have to say that I can't live without discussing nutrition and health. I was once very closeted when it came to my healthy habits because it was out of the social "norm" for a girl my age to prefer a wholesome meal over Burger King. I simply didn't want the attention that my friends began to give. Now, as a healthy living blogger, openly discussing health and such is something that I became accustomed to, and I learned that it is certainly nothing to be ashamed of. I wouldn't have it any other way.
4. Facebook or Twitter? and why?
Instagram! Although I do have a Facebook and a Twitter, I stink at both!
5. If one celeb read your blog who would you want it to be?
Maybe Demi Lovato? That's a toughie! I know I love her and think that she's a great role model. I'd love her feedback!
6. What is something you want people to know about your blog?
I sink my heart and soul into this thing. It's something that has become very significant to me within the past two months, and it undoubtedly helped me establish who I am.
Thanks, Neely, for hosting!
Onto my New Goal!
As you all know, I am an avid gym-goer. I love to bike. I love to lift. I love to run.
Running, however, has decreased significantly over the past few months because I wanted to see if I could attain a different physical result. Although I was very hesitant to cut cardio because I feared weight gain and serious muscle gain (see meme below), I realized that I must do something different to see a different result.
So, I sucked it up and switched workout gears.
My experiment was a success! I learned that a combination of weights and plyometrics can give you the same, if not better, result as cardio! I toned and gained muscle in the areas that I have been trying so hard to for years within months! To anyone looking to define and tone, cut the cardio and implement more weights into your workouts. You'll be amazed by the results you can get by simply lifting and eating wholesome foods!
Nonetheless, now that I've seen the result that I was working so hard for, I'm ready to weave cardio back into my workouts. I'd love to start running again! In the past, I was running 18-20 miles each week on top of all of my other favorite workouts, and I would love to be able hit that mileage again.
Since the weather outside has been unbelievably beautiful (excluding the past few days that have monsooned), I have been taking advantage of it and running outdoors. Are you guys familiar with the Run Keeper app? If not, check it out! I very much recommend it to anyone who is looking to analyze his or her running workout. As you can see, it tells you mileage, duration, pace, etc. The app even tells you all of those details while you're running so that you have an idea of your performance! Pretty cool, huh?
As for my new goal, I have decided that I want to work my way towards two (rather daunting) events: the Broad Street Run and a half-marathon! I have set a goal to run 50 miles for this month, and I'm hoping to slowly work my way up from there. As you all know, I'm participating in my very first running event, the Color Me Rad 5k, next Sunday, so I'm hoping that will give me the drive to begin my journey!
Seeing so many people within the community accomplish marathons over the past few months has definitely sparked my interest and curiosity. I'm hoping that I too will be able to join them next year.
What's your fitness goal?
Have you ever participated in a running event or marathon?
