As I mentioned in yesterday's post, I officially kicked off my spring semester
at my new school. I don't believe that I announced it to anyone, but I decided to
switch universities about mid-November in order to be closer to home
and be closer to work with Sweet Note Bakery. Doing so was not in my original game
plan, but hey- sometimes life doesn't go in the direction that you expected it
to and you have to adjust accordingly. Although I am going to miss my original university,
I am looking to make my new one home and I am looking to make the absolute
best of it. I have always loved college, and I am so thankful to be able to juggle
full-time class and full-time work at the same time. Being a part of Sweet Note
and working with Michelle (and our newest member of the team, Allison AKA Ali Bean's Bakery) is truly a
dream come true. <3
Okay, so Now that my Ramble is out of the Way...
I wanted to share a few ways that I maintain a balanced, happy,
and unstressed lifestyle. Many people ask me how the hell I manage to
juggle everything everything that I do, so I put together a list of things that
help me stay motivated every single day. With the start of the semester, I thought that
this would be the perfect opportunity to do a blog post!
6 Ways to Maintain a Balanced Lifestyle
By: Yours Truly
1. Let go of the Drive for Perfection
Many people, including myself, have this vision of achieving absolute perfection.
Although I have finally learned to let go of that vision, I learned to do so the hard way.
Please, please, please loosen up the reins that you put on yourself and understand
that a "perfect" lifestyle isn't real. You're going to finish tasks late, you're going to put chores on the back burner, you're going to have some minor hiccups. Do not stress yourself out when it comes to
the little things. Honestly, just let life run its course and go with the flow. Do the absolute
best you can to achieve goals and achieve what's best for YOU. Sometimes, that best thing
is forgetting work that needs to be done and is cuddling up on the couch with a pint of
Ben and Jerry's and simply letting yourself unwind. An imperfect lifestyle doesn't seem so
bad, does it?
2. Figure Out What's Important
You only have 24 hours a day to get things done. Don't waste those hours
on someone or something that is undeserving. Do what is most beneficial to
YOU and do what brings you most joy. Time is so valuable.
3. Write it Down
I don't know about you, but the only reason I get things done is because I write them down.
The more that errands, homework, tasks, or goals are jotted down, the more inevitable it
becomes to forget them. Whether you write in your agenda, on your fridge (on a piece of paper,
of course. Not directly on your fridge :-p) or on your iPad, keep a running document
of your tasks, goals, life events, etc.
4. Remain Focused on the Future
Begin with the end in mind. What are you working towards?
Sometimes you have this astronomically huge vision
that you plan to fulfill at some point in time; however, you have no idea how the hell
you're going to get there. Simply take baby steps, every single day, and
you will reach fulfillment. You're going to encounter obstacles. You're going to
have to change plans (i.e. transfer colleges in the middle of the year). Simply go with the flow,
evaluate your action plan, and work your booty off. If you remained focused on the future, it
will become impossible for anyone to distract you.
5. Remain Active and Eat Healthy
I don't care how cliche it sounds. The two go hand-in-hand.
Catering to and listening to your body is absolutely crucial to living a balanced lifestyle.
Just like a car needs gas to drive, you need food to fuel your body. Give yourself nourishment and
gravitate towards healthy food choices. Learn how fun cooking can be and integrate new
ingredients into your meals. Also, take 45-60 minutes about 5 days a week and
engage in physical activity. Take a yoga class, go for a run,
swim in the pool, do whatever it is that you feel like doing! I don't know about you,
but fitness truly relieves so much stress and so much anxiety for me, as much of a burden
actually getting to the gym can be sometimes. Your body will truly thank you.
6. Love What you Do
I have said it before and I will say it again: if you love what you do, you'll never
work a day in your life. Find something that you're passionate about and do it.
Why do I get up at 6 AM some mornings to workout? Because I love how fitness makes me
feel both mentally and physically. Why do I skip some outings with friends in order to catch up on school work? Because I love what I'm studying and want to succeed. Why do I work
as hard as I do for Sweet Note Bakery? Because I want to
help my, Michelle's, and Ali's dream come true. Discover what you love and
the rest will work itself out.
Happy Thursday, friends. I hope this helps you as much as it helps me. <3
